Passed away, peacefully at the John M. Parrott Centre in Napanee on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Monika Elisabeth Johanson (Hamann) of Napanee and formerly of Warkworth, a proud Estonian-Canadian at age 95. Beloved wife of the late Elmar Johanson. Dear mother of Mart Johanson of Dartmouth NS and Helme Good of Napanee, generous and loving mother-in-law to Pamela and Chris. Proud grandmother of Krista Johanson (J.M. Campbell) and Karl Johanson (Christy). Sister of Dorethea of Germany and the late Jurgen Hamann. Monika faced life with enthusiasm and a smile. She was an active member of the Women’s Institute during her time in Warkworth. A pioneering farm vacation hostess who garnered rave reviews in the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. Monika embraced the move to Napanee in 1989. Volunteering at McPherson House, she helped restore the heritage gardens and baked bread in the old oven for tours. She also volunteered at the hospital auxiliary shop at the L&A County General Hospital, enthusiastically line danced till age 85, and proudly was the eldest for a time at the SOS “over 50” exercise class. A creative and artistic mother who gave her children wonderful Christmases, and a love of theatre and music. Her favourite line was that “age is just a number” and proved it by being an active gardener until she was 90. A life well lived indeed. Cremation with a private interment at Sillsville Cemetery. Memorial donations made to The John M. Parrott Centre or the Lennox and Addington County Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. In the care of Hannah Funeral Home, in Napanee.
